Better insurance for less money
Many Swiss people are both under- and overinsured at the same time. This is a problem as existential risks are insufficiently covered, while premiums are being wasted on unnecessary cover.

Which insurance do I really need?
Many insurance policies are unnecessary or overpriced – or both. The only coverage you really need is against risks that could have an adverse effect on your budget or even threaten your existence. By contrast, anything you can cover yourself without any problems does not need to be insured. Having a glass breakage policy as an add-on to your house contents insurance is often unnecessary, for example. If you break a glass table, you can often afford to simply buy a new one.
Am I over- or underinsured?
It was previously the case that almost all insurers offered the same products at the same price. This all changed following the end of the price cartel: Insurers now continually adapt their product range by varying the different coverage components. That is why many Swiss households are insured twice for certain risks, while also having serious gaps in their insurance for others.
Am I paying too much for my insurance?
The price differences between the different insurance companies are enormous. That is why it is worth comparing premiums and then switching providers as necessary. The example below shows just how large the potential savings could be:
- A family pays CHF 14,126 for all their main insurance policies from their provider.
- This family can get the same or even better insurance cover via VZ for just CHF 12,853.
- By changing policies and health insurer, the family therefore saves almost CHF 1,300 per year.
How do I get better insurance benefits for less money?
This is a lot easier than you might think. Simply join the collective agreements that VZ has negotiated with insurers and which provide above-average benefits. All customers who have already done so pay an average of 15 percent less for their premiums each year – for identical or even better insurance benefits. This is possible thanks to the bundling of risks and lower administration costs.
How do I make sure my home is adequately insured?
Many home owners still do not have any insurance for water damage to buildings even though it can cost a huge amount of money to repair such damage. And when making renovations, it is easy to forget to increase your insurance amount – which could have serious consequences in the event of a claim. These are just two examples of gaps in coverage that our insurance experts see time and time again when reviewing home owners’ policies. We offer a free-of-charge analysis, which allows you to see whether you are adequately insured and at the right price.
What do I need to consider in terms of car insurance?
There are large differences in the costs and benefits offered by different providers. The costs of premiums for third-party liability and fully comprehensive insurance for a mid-range car differ by up to 500 francs per year between a n inexpensive insurer and a more costly one. The more expensive the car, the bigger the differences. When considering the benefits, you also need to consider the amount you would receive if the car is written off following an accident. Some insurers only pay 80 percent of a brand new car’s purchase price after its first year of use, whereas other pay out the full purchase price for the first two years.
When getting a new car, this is the best opportunity to change your insurance to an inexpensive provider with better benefits without incurring additional costs. Our insurance experts offer a free-of-charge insurance check to see whether changing your policy is worthwhile.
What insurance do I need if I am self-employed?
Depending on the legal form of your company, certain insurance is mandatory. It is also a good idea to have insurance to at least cover any risks that could threaten your personal existence or that of your company. In all cases, this would include business and professional liability insurance. For many companies, cyber-risks are nowadays one of the main business risks. This applies not only for companies who conduct their business online, but for all companies – if cyber-criminals steal data, install malware on systems or take down servers, companies can face huge losses, damage to their reputation and even disruptions to their business that could place their existence at risk.
How do I properly organise my insurance portfolio?
Most people do not have an overview of their insurance policies: They don’t know what they have insured, where their policies are kept, how much they pay for them and when the contracts expire. Does this apply to you? The VZ Financial Portal brings some order to this chaos. Here you can organise all your contracts and invoices online, where you can access them at any time. And if you need to make a claim, you have everything you need to hand – on your PC, your tablet or your smartphone. What’s more, VZ will continually review your premiums and benefits: A traffic light system shows where there is room for improvement and where you can save on premiums.
